We grabbed Silence Lotto rider Charlie Wegelius's PowerTap after Monday's Stage 3 of the Tour de France. During this stage, a small break got away from the main field in the beginning of the race. That break stayed away until part way through the race, when the sprinters' teams sent their riders to the front.

The Presidential Tour of Turkey is one of the lesser known Pro Stage Races on the UCI Europe Tour. Held annually, 2008 marked the first year in its history that the Presidential Tour of Turkey was upgraded to a UCI Category 1 level race, open to Pro Tour Teams. This year’s race ran over eight stages for a total of 1212 kilometers, with no time-trials, but plenty of opportunities for sprinters to shine. Five Pro Tour Teams participated, and CycleOps Powered athletes on Team Silence-Lotto added to the competition.

For 2009, Belgian Pro-Tour Team Silence-Lotto is training and racing with CycleOps PowerTaps. Tom Steels, former professional cyclist and 9-time Tour de France stage winner, works directly with the team analyzing each rider’s PowerTap data after every ride and every race. Steels is a self-proclaimed “Power Addict,” and his attention to the detail in the team’s power data has revolutionized the Team’s training and racing. “In times when things get difficult, you need a neutral guidance,” Steels said, “Power measurement is such a tool. It only reads the power in your legs and not the head. In tough times it’s better.”
