SuperMagneto Pro vs JetFluid Pro

CycleOps Power didn’t spare any effort or expense when it came to supporting the Argyle Armada on the roads of the Tour de France. In fact not only did we provide a series of ANT+ Sport PowerTaps to the team but also a collection of Pro Series Trainers for the team to warm up on for the key time trials. In development for the past 18 months, the JetFluid Pro and SuperMagneto Pro represent a revolution in trainer technology for CycleOps Power, and the Tour would be a key proving ground for these innovations.

The JetFluid Pro is the latest in Fluid technology from the recognized leader in the Fluid category; it features a PowerTuned resistance unit, which means that the flywheel has been optimized specifically for the resistance unit that it is mated with. This resistance unit and its power curve is particularly ideal for the average-sized member of the Garmin Chipoltle team, such as Will Frischkorn or David Millar. Its power curve has been tuned to meet the strength-to-weight ratios that these riders have.

The other innovation that the team had at its disposal was the CycleOps SuperMagneto Pro, the world’s first progressive resistance mag trainer with multiple power curves. Because all riders aren’t created alike, we don’t create all trainers alike, and as such the SuperMagneto Pro offers 4 distinct power curves that can be manually selected by the athlete. Magnus Backstedt was one of the first riders ever to test this trainer and took to it right away. Due to his unique body size and mass, he rides this trainer’s most aggressive setting, the hill setting, and in his warm up he does several 5 minute efforts at over 650 watts.

Both of these resistance units were mounted on brand new Pro Series frames that provided a stiffer and more stable platform for the riders' warm up than the current frame and was easier to level and quicker to set up by the support staff pre event.

One final touch for the guys – Slipstream team edition trainer mats. Because style counts.

We got a question in our Inbox regarding the SuperMagneto Pro Trainer...

>Are the 4 power curves of the Super Mag Pro used to warm up for the time trial >adjustable by a unit attached to the handle bars? I presently have a Blackburn >unit that has 3 power curves but they can't be adjusted unless you disassemble >the resistance unit.

>Thanks,

The power curves are adjusted on the resistance unit of the trainer. No need to disassemble the unit, just a simple turn of the adjustment handle on the outside of the trainer. I'll post a photo above to illustrate what it looks like. Thanks for the question.

So are these little devices allowed in competitions like Tour de France? I thought that all the bikes have standard features, this would make it easier to focus on sportsmen ability to win the competition.
