Eneko Llanos placed 2nd at this year's Ironman World Championships, and his PowerTap proved to be an integral component of his success this year.
Says Llanos, "Since I started using the PowerTap, I am able to train more accurately and race in a more effective way. I am learning to pace and get the best performance of myself. Now I can see the results; my bike splits are faster while I can keep my running speed."
Llanos had his PowerTap to pace him at Kona, and he turned out some exceptional numbers on his way to a 4:33:27 bike split.
We can take a closer look at his ride by focusing on the power graph and some peak power values.

Llanos kept a consistent pace throughout the entire 112 miles. The yellow line of the power data on the ride's graph hovers steadily between about 230 and 310 watts. The numbers themselves show a similar story with power levels being generally consistent throughout the ride. The only anomaly that can be seen is slightly higher peak power numbers for short segments of time during the first fourth of the race. This could possibly be due to several factors: a shot of adrenaline at the beginning of a the ride; a boost in speed to catch leading competitors. However, after the first 20 kilometers, he settles into a steady pace that was only interrupted by the most prominent geographical feature on the route -- the climb to the turnaround point in Hawi.
