So you're thinking about integrating power into your cycling regimen. You like the benefits of a hub-based power measuring system, and a PowerTap seems like the perfect fit. With the new line of PowerTaps released in Fall of 2008, there is an option for every athlete with every goal. The question we often get is, "Which one is best for me?"
There are four different PowerTap road hub models to choose from. Each one measures power wirelessly, so installation on the bike is
easy, and each one is ANT+ Sport compatible, so the PowerTap will communicate either with the included CPU or with your preferred ANT+ Sport-compatible device.
Beyond that, however, each PowerTap model has a unique set of benefits to fit your needs. The main differences among the 4 units are weight, price, axle stiffness, and package components.

For the cost-conscious rider, the ELITE+ is the lowest-priced PowerTap model. It is built with a 12mm steel axle, which is stiff but heavier than its alloy counterparts. The unit weighs 624 grams and is built with a solid alloy hub shell. It does not include heart rate monitoring or onboard analysis.

With its 12mm alloy axle, the PRO+ model is 158 grams lighter than the ELITE+. It costs a bit more but includes heart rate monitoring and onboard analysis. With its solid alloy hub shell, it weighs in at 466 grams.

The SL+ shaves even more weight with carbon fiber windows in its alloy hub shell and a 15mm axle, which is stiffer than the 12mm alloy version and lighter that the 12mm steel version. It also includes heart rate monitoring and on board analysis and weighs 416 grams. Because of its weight savings, The SL+ PowerTap is priced higher than the PRO+ model.

For those who want the best, the SLC+ is the premium PowerTap hub. The SLC+ has all the features of the SL+, with the decreased weight and coveted watt savings of ceramic bearings. This is our priciest but lightest PowerTap hub available, with a weight of 402 grams.
